Becky is still at DHL, trying to survive the Christmas season. She’s been working 12 hour days, 6 days a week. Work has kept her pretty busy, but she still enjoys it. She started out her year turning our home into a greenhouse to prepare for gardening in the spring. She spent much of the summer tearing out our lawn and removing landscape rock to make room for more garden.
The rest of it was spent picking and canning green beans. Way, way too many green beans.
Travis has spent the year in his usual way, chronologically. There’s ice fishing season, turkey hunting season, boat repair season, spring fishing season, boat repair season, summer fishing season, dear hunting season, and Christmas. Some of the seasons were more successful than others, but he and Cody had a lot of fun anyway. And the boat doesn’t leak anymore either. He’ll be fulfilling a life long dream when he moves on from Sun Country Airlines to Northwest at the end of December.
Cody’s year started out with learning to care for his kitty, Molly, which he received as a Christmas present. Several dramatic events (or traumatic depending on whether you’re taking the view point of the cat or Cody’s parents) later, kitty is still alive and well, and has made herself quite at home in the Haugen household. Its almost as if she thinks she owns the place. Cody has moved on to the third grade this year and is enjoying his new status. He started getting homework, which he isn’t too thrilled about, but is surviving. He has become quite the serious fisherman; all it took was a trip up north with Grandpa Jim for some “real” fishing. Maybe he and Travis will even catch something through the ice this year…
So far as the family life goes, we’ve all been pretty busy with work and school. It always seems that no matter how much time you have it’s never enough. We were fortunate enough to find the time to go on our annual “camping in style” trip with Becky’s parents, to try out river camping and to take a trip up north to Travis’s parents’ cabin. The house is still being put back together after the great toilet leak incident of 06’. Fortunately Grandpa Gross was able to come up that year to get us most of the way or we’d really be in sorry shape. The picture on the far left is pre-Grandpa Gross. Grandpa Jim and Travis have been plugging away at it ever since.
Cody and Travis started building a radio controlled model airplane this fall. Both are very excited about it, and have thus far avoided gluing their fingers together. Becky hosted Thanksgiving again. Uncle Chick was in attendance, as per tradition. All enjoyed the meal, even Paxton who also received a plate as per Gross family tradition. For those who have not made the pleasure of his acquaintance, Paxton is the family dog. Christmas is starting to shape up (we might even get this letter printed and in the mail…) with a tree that takes up most of the living room and the shopping nearly taken care of.
And lastly we would like to announce an upcoming addition of a baby to our family. The first time we saw her (we don’t know the sex yet, but everyone is convinced that she’s a girl) she was wiggling just as much as she possibly could. Thus, we have nicknamed her “Wiggles.” Becky is due in May.
